Devlog #3 - They hear you now!


Gameplay

  • Bullet Penetration: Projectiles can now pass through enemies if possible. For example, the M24 can eliminate up to three enemies with a single shot.

  • Sound-Reactive Enemies: Zombies now react to sound sources such as gunfire and explosions.

  • Barrel Improvements: Barrel placement has been improved, and the shockwave simulation has been adjusted for more realistic effects.

  • Final Quest Enemy Pressure: During the final quest, additional zombies are spawned to maintain tension and challenge.

  • Improved Zombie Behavior: Enemies are less likely to stop in front of the player and attack into the void.

  • Explosion Lighting: The lighting of explosions has been adjusted for more believable visual impact.

  • Enemy Compass: When fewer than ten enemies remain, a directional arrow will help locate them.

  • New Building: A new house has been added to the map. It is still quite empty but will be expanded in future updates.

  • Story-Based Mini Quest: A small narrative-driven side quest has been added.

Audio

  • Footstep Sounds: Both the player and enemies now have footstep audio.

  • 3D Spatial Audio for Enemies: Enemy sounds are now spatialized, allowing the player to estimate direction and movement type (walking vs. running).

  • Item Pickup Sounds: Picking up items now triggers a sound effect.

  • Readable Scenes with Audio: Narrative elements like notes and quest logs are now displayed line by line with synchronized typing sound effects.

UI & Menus

  • FPS and Sensitivity Options: The main menu now includes options for limiting FPS and adjusting mouse/controller sensitivity.

  • FPS Counter: A simple FPS counter has been added for debugging purposes.

  • Roof Visibility: Roofs remain hidden once everything in the corresponding room has been looted.

  • Improved Controller Navigation: D-pad navigation in menus now works as expected.

Balancing

  • Weapon Damage Adjustments: The damage of several weapons has been increased to match the gameplay pacing and enemy difficulty.

Code & Technical Improvements

  • Code Optimizations: Multiple improvements and cleanups were made to internal systems and structure.

  • Version Numbering: A visible version number now increases with each release.

  • Bug Fixes: Several bugs have been resolved, including issues related to UI navigation, enemy AI, and audio behavior.
